Do you want to help a child learn to read and learn Orton Gillingham for free?

This call is open to all, but Miami-Dade locals preferred!

Learn, volunteer, and work with The Lucy Project. We help you build a career, and you help children in underserved communities. We are looking for volunteers with a Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (teaching, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social work, psychology) who are ready to change the world, one child at a time.

You will receive IMSE comprehensive Orton Gillingham Training.

This virtual 30-hour training is a hands-on, 5-day personalized sessions that provide a complete understanding of IMSE's Orton-Gillingham method and the skills necessary to apply it in the classroom, small group, or one on one. This course focuses on phonological
awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. After participating in this
training, teachers will be able to assess, evaluate, and teach children how to read, write,
and spell proficiently.  Upon completion and submission of video, you will receive the IMSE Comprehensive Completion Certificate.

You will also participate in the Lucy Project Apprenticeship experience.

The Lucy Project Apprenticeship involves 60 hours of hands-on reading remediation sessions, at a title 1 school. You will receive coaching from a professional while teaching four times a week, one-on-one. We will provide the student for you to do your training.  During this training, you will develop lesson plans, be observed, and guided while using the IMSE OG methodology. Participants will be required to submit benchmarking and progress monitoring data, submit reports, complete assignments, and weekly meetings.

The Lucy Project will pay for all software and fees related to your training and testing, which will be 30 hours. In return, The Lucy Project asks you to volunteer an additional 60 hours.  We are happy to work with your schedule and will provide the student for you to do volunteer hours. After the Comprehensive training, you must be available to teach for 1 hour daily until you have finished your commitment.  This is a rigorous program and a signed contract with The Lucy Project is a must.

If you want to better the world and yourself, we would love to partner with you!  To apply, please send us your resume to info@lucyproject.org and a short paragraph on why you should be selected.

Thank you!
