EVERY EDUCATOR DEDICATED TO CHANGING LIVES DESERVES TO HAVE

Training,

mentorship,

& opportunities

to help the children who are most in need.

I’d like to volunteer for The Lucy Project.

Learn how you can join our team of volunteers and help us get more kids readingt.

I’d like to attend professional development and teach.

If you are a classroom teacher or a private tutor and want to be trained in Structured Literacy, we want to know you.

I’d like you to help us build capacity at a school.

The fastest way we can raise the literacy rate in Miami is by training public school teachers. School administrators, click here.

You deserve to go to bed at night knowing you’ve made a difference.

At The Lucy Project, we know that teachers are some of the most passionate people in the world. We also know what it feels like when passion turns to frustration. The teaching methods you’ve been taught aren’t serving some, or even most, of your students. You are not to blame. The flawed system is.

We understand because we are the parents you saw crying because we felt helpless. We are the teachers who went home with a knot in their stomachs knowing there must be a better way. That is why we are here. To show you that better way. The one we discovered and built our programs around with hundreds of hours of research and dozens of experts.

Thousands of children with learning difficulties in Miami are waiting for their heroes. Will you be one of them?

BE SUPPORTED BY

community

Once you complete your OG training, our team will match you with a student who needs your support. Each week, all the teachers gather for a virtual meeting to offer support, advice, a listening ear to one another. The Lucy Project also provides ongoing professional development so you never feel alone and always know your next steps.

HAVE A DAILY SENSE OF

fulfillment

You will work one-on-one, for one hour daily with a student in a Title I school. In some cases, you may have a small group of students. You will grow and learn with them. Some days you will wonder if you are even making progress. Some days you will sob with joy. In the end, you will see, you have truly changed life. And that’s just the beginning.

“I teach because...”

"I teach for The Lucy Project because our strategies are effective and research-based. The proof is in the pudding: Our kids are reading!"

Coco Banks, The Lucy Project Learning Specialist

"There is something special about kids who want to read so badly, kids who ask to meet on the weekend or on the day off from school. Because they are learning to read and it's finally starting to click. The feeling of learning to read is amazing! That is what we are doing at TLP"

"It’s always been my dream to help children who struggle in school. I don’t want to imagine that any child is going to bed at night thinking they are not good enough, not smart enough. Because, oh, my goodness they are. They really, really are."

Virginia, The Lucy Project Learning Specialist

"If someone would have told me I was going to teach remotely to a little girl who can't read and that this girl would be learning in leaps and bounds and voraciously asking for more and more lessons, I would not have believed it. This teaching method is nothing short of a miracle.”

Dr. Heather Stephens, Lucy Project Learning Specialist and Practicum Supervisor

"Witnessing the reaction of pure joy of a struggling reader because for the first time in his life he read a long word fluently, without sounding out each letter. That's what makes being a Lucy Project Learning Specialist so fulfilling. I am grateful for the unparalleled training I keep getting from this organization and the impact it has on our students. The Lucy Project is bringing best practices in reading science to the children who need it most. It is such a privilege to be a part of this noble work."

I enjoy volunteering at The Lucy Project, because of the impact I’ve been able to make in my local community.
